What does "Up and Down" mean?

In golf, this is one of the most common terms used when discussing play on the course.  This occurs anytime a player is off of the green and is successful using two strokes to get the ball into the cup.  The player gets the ball "up" onto the green, and "down" into the cup.  Hence...Up and Down.  It is most common to use this term when the ball is relatively close to the green from which getting "up and down" would yield a positive result.  

Example: Par is the standard in golf. On a par 4, I should be on the green in two strokes. Then, I should take two putts to make par.  If my second stroke missed the green on a par 4, then I need to get "up and down" to make par.

Up & Down Golfwear...how it all began

I was daydreaming one day, as most of us have, about having a job that I actually enjoy and could be passionate about.  As the saying goes, "Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life."  Well, I love golf.  The problem was, as anyone who has ever golfed with me knows, that my playing skills would never lead me to the PGA Tour.  There needed to be a different way for me to  pursue a living in golf.  Hence, the proverbial "wheels" started spinning. Then, one day while watching golf on TV, I found it fascinating how many times you actually hear the term "up and down" mentioned.  After pleading to my creative side to find a way to represent that terminology, and countless pieces of paper filled with up and down doodles, my doodles transformed into the logo. As I worked on the logo, I also thought hard as to what the logo would be used for. The decision was to develop a brand that represents a lifestyle.  Not only are we trying to make par (or better) on the course, we are also trying to make par (or better) in life. The lifestlye is not only helping yourself get up and down on the course, but also helping others in need get up and down off the course. Just like that, Up & Down Golfwear was conceived.

On the Course

Off the Course

Metaphorically speaking, many of us are just trying to make par in life.  Let's be honest, in life, par is a good score.  For some, life presents great challenges from which getting up and down for par can be difficult.  That's where we want to help.
